Vintage World War II Fighter Plane Crashes in Galveston Bay Killing Two

On October 23, 2013, a relic World War II P-51 Mustang fighter plane crashed in Galveston Bay in Texas killing its pilot and only passenger. The crash was reported by a nearby boat captain, and authorities found the wreckage and bodies at a point in the bay where the water was only four feet deep. The passenger paid $2,000 to fly in the P-51 while visiting Texas from the United Kingdom with his wife for their 41st wedding anniversary. At the time of the crash, the pilot was not in communication with air-traffic controllers, according to an FAA spokesperson. The cause of the crash is still unknown.
